Founded in 1939, Ruff Roofers began as a regional roofing contractor serving municipalities, universities, schools, and hospitals across the Mid-Atlantic. For over 85 years, we have been keeping the elements out and operations running for the most critical institutional assets.
In 2026, we evolved into Ruff Building Solutions Group—a holding company that unites proven regional operators under a single platform. We build brands that build businesses, ensuring they last for years to come.
Our mission is simple: to be the premier building envelope platform in the Eastern US, bringing institutional-grade management, rigorous safety standards, and proven expertise to a highly fragmented industry.

Ruff Roofers Founded
Established as a residential roofing and siding contractor in Baltimore. Grew into a commercial contractor in the late 50's and then further into DC market in 70's.
Regional Expansion
Ruff Roofers establishes itself as the trusted partner for commercial roofing across the Mid-Atlantic and expands into Florida.
Strategic Acquisitions
Acquisition of Dry-Tech (Carolinas) and Simpson Unlimited (Virginia) to create a unified platform across the Eastern US.
RBSG Platform Launch

Pete Friz
CEO
Pete serves as CEO of Ruff Building Solutions Group. Pete brings deep experience in scaling distributed trades and essential service businesses including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, commercial landscaping, and construction. Pete is based in Maryland and earned his Bachelors from the University of MD and his MBA from Loyola University.
Fred Cooper
CFO
Fred was appointed CFO of Ruff Building Solutions Group in 2026. He has an established background in facilitating growth and enterprise value optimization at several private equity-sponsored organizations. Fred earned a B.S. in Accounting from The American University and a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.
Rob Ruff
Founding Owner
Rob is part of the 4th generation at Ruff Roofers, working in the business since childhood. Rob took a sales focused role after college and has been leading the relationship-based sales philosophy for ~20 years. Over the last dozen years, Rob has co-led the Ruff Roofers business with his brother Tim and now engages across the platform to accelerate our organic growth efforts.
Tim Ruff
Founding Owner
Tim is part of the 4th generation at Ruff Roofers, working in the business since childhood. Tim has extensive field experience, including leading the field operations across safety, quality and production after college. Tim is an expert tradesman in many of the finer arts of roofing including slate, sheet metal and copper. Over the last dozen years, Tim has co-led the Ruff Roofers business with his brother Rob and now engages with other leaders in safety, production quality, and job planning.
